How it started

​

The story began in 1946, when our grandfather Joseph returned from serving aboard the HMCS Skeena and started working as a union framing carpenter during Montreal’s post-war building boom.

​

Our father Michael began his career hands-on as a carpenter apprentice, developing experience in framing, finishing, blueprint reading and jobsite layout before transitioning into bricklaying and masonry work. Over time, he built both technical expertise and leadership skills, eventually founding his own general contracting company and overseeing projects from planning through completion.

MTL Contractors today

​

Today, brothers Zack and Jesse Jurkowski lead MTL Contractors, combining traditional trade knowledge with modern construction practices, project management systems and licensed general contracting expertise (RBQ 5767-5480-01). Both are journeyman carpenters with CCQ competency cards and hands-on experience managing residential and commercial renovation projects throughout Montreal.

We specialize in high-quality residential renovations including kitchens, bathrooms, basements, structural work, extensions and full-home remodels, while also completing select commercial interior projects throughout Montreal.

Our team works alongside trusted tradespeople and industry partners across the city. We are fully licensed, bonded, ASP certified and covered by CNESST, with a strong focus on quality workmanship, communication and organized project execution.

Community Engagement

Outside of the jobsite, we actively share construction knowledge online with an audience of more than 110,000 followers across social media. Through educational content, behind-the-scenes project coverage and industry advocacy, we aim to help modernize the perception of the trades and encourage the next generation entering the industry.
